First things first - should we focus on “I’m new to Lexington”?

I think that a good place to start would be pretending you had a friend who just moved to Lexington. What would they need to know first?

Driving/navigating - it’s a spoke & wheel city, not a grid. The main roads are US highways, and change names. Nicholasville Rd has more lanes going north in the morning, and more south in the evening. Look out for Rupp concerts and basketball games - can mess up your travel time. New Circle Rd. Lextran / Wheels.

Grocery stores - Kroger is big and almost everywhere. Walmart groceries and superstores. Publix coming. Whole Foods and Good Foods and ?Fresh Market? On Tates Creek. And Asian grocers and other international markets. Yu Yu and DY and others.

Specialty restaurants - what are some vegetarian / Mediterranean/ Japanese / etc. in town.

Schools - FCPS and privates. Enrolling/magnets/other things to know.

Getting your driver’s license and car tags. How to find the driver’s license place off Opportunity Way / Leestown & New Circle area. Getting registered to vote. Getting library card.

How do you find a good apartment. Feels like word of mouth is the way - might need to live in a complex, and ask everyone if they know better options.

Buying a house - pros & cons of being in Fayette Co. versus surrounding.

Best internet options.
